Today’s prompt is one of my favorites because, however you decide to approach it, it will stretch your comfort zone.
As a result, your songwriting will improve.
Write in a genre that’s different from what you’re used to.
It could be a genre you actively dislike.
Or a genre you don’t particularly like or simply don’t know much about.
Take the pressure off.
There’s no expectation of quality when you write in a genre that’s “not your thing”.
And that lack of expectation can be extremely helpful in the music studio.
You might just surprise yourself….
Have fun with this!
Pro tip: is there something about the genre you chose that you find a little bit cheesy or particularly annoying? Maybe focus on that while you write.
