Hi!
Choose a movie you know well (or not) and turn it into a song, with or without lyrics.
You could do this any way you want.
If you're struggling to get started, here are a few questions that may help.
? What kind of music do you associate with this movie? Do you want to go down that road or explore something completely unexpected?
? Is there a strong character or relationship that is at the center of the movie? Should you write about that?
? Does the movie feature striking landscapes that inspire music?
? Is there a scene that every one remembers? Is it controversial?
? Can you translate the plot into a music arrangement?
That last one is a tricky one, let me give you an example:
- long intro (a little slow to get started)
- chorus (exciting event)
- verse (plot development)
- chorus
- bridge (story going on a tangent)
- chorus
- verse (wrapping up the story)
- outro (leaving room for a second installment in a potential trilogy)
Don't overthink this.
Give it a go and see where it takes you ?
Have fun with this and feel free to share your work with me in the comments!
Sincerely,
Joyce
Hi Joyce, I came up with another video. My movie was 8 Mile. I use a Rap Beat and Rock Guitar to capture the atmosphere of 8 mile and recite a poem over the soundtrack which was inspired by the movie. Trying to capture the idea of a big bad gangster rapper turning up at a very twee proper poetry night. Also added some choral effects to add to the humour. Hope you like it https://youtu.be/btTUb1arqQs
Very cool ! The way you started reminded me of the Alphabet Aerobics rap: https://youtu.be/aKdV5FvXLuI
Really like the story telling and dynamics you managed to write in and perform as well ?
Thanks Joyce. Yep, that Alphabet Aerobics is some rap 🙂

King of Hearts with Jason Robards takes place in a French village invaded by Nazis who leave the door of the insane asylum open and the inmates take over the town living their fantasies. this tune I wrote yesterday covering the general ambience of the film… for some reason it didn’t post yesterday. hmmm.
Hey Mikel, can you double check that link? It’s not working :/
Hi Joyce,
I’ve chosen to just follow the path of a movie; long intro-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-verse-outro. The track can be found here; https://soundcloud.com/jeff-van-beek/movie/s-DYZMuuhD8VI.
Nice one Jeff! Did you have a specific movie in mind?
It reminded me a little bit of a tune in the Berlin Calling soundtrack.
No movie in particular. I was spending too much time ?. I’ve never heard of Berlin Calling, but I will definitely check it out. Thank you.
